About

This blog is about how to get a Good Job, which means working to get living wage employment you truly enjoy.

----------

My view of employment in America is that the employment system is broken.

I'm not the only person who thinks it's broken. Google the topic, and you can find well-known sites like PBS talking about the issue, as well as knowledgeable-but-little-known people discussing the topic:

PBS: "Why America’s Employment System Is so Broken"
Forbes: "Want To Hire Great Employees? Fix Your Broken Recruiting Process"
Gallup: "The World's Broken Workplace"
Dan Schwabel: "Employee burnout is becoming a huge problem in the American workforce"

I started this blog because I tried to get over 20 good jobs between 2007 and 2017 and had little success. One engineering job was interesting, fun, and good pay, but it was a contract job that only lasted four months and didn't lead to a follow-up job. Another engineering job I had, with a small startup company, was very interesting, loads of fun, and acceptable pay, but it only lasted for a year or so and didn't lead to a follow-up job.

After ten years of trying to get a good job that would last for several years or lead to another good job, I decided I needed to figure out a better way to get good jobs. As with many things in life, there are no easy or clear answers to getting a good job. And most people don't like change, which will be required if you want a good job and don't have one now.

Writing this blog will help me figure out what jobs will be good for me and different ways to work toward getting those good jobs.

This blog will be a worthwhile use of my time if it helps me get a good job.

This blog will also be worthwhile if it helps other people work toward getting good jobs.
